Give for God's Glory (By Thomas Hill)

October Focus: Week Four: Give for God’s Glory

During October, we are focusing on the grace of giving. Another biblical motive for supporting your church financially, according to Jamie Dunlop in his booklet Why Should I Give to My Church?, is the Glory of God. Giving to support your church shows off the Lord’s goodness and honor. Our hearts will swell with a desire to give when they swell with an appreciation for how amazing God is! When we give our money to the Lord by supporting his kingdom’s advance in this world our giving glorifies him – it shows HIM to be magnificent! Paul exhorts, “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” (1 Corinthians 10:31).

Practically, Dunlop supplies us with four answers to the question: Why should I give to my church? First, the local church teaches you and others. Second, the church is the center piece of God’s plan in the world. Third, the local church is your family. Fourth, the local church will prevail. Investments in God’s plan will bring a glorious return.

May we all continue growing as disciples who use money for the Lord's glory.
